Happy dogs, happy life!
Having the right relationship and mindset makes all the difference. The dog needs to trust you and me as the wellness provider. A more dominant than submissive relationship works best as we as the humans should be in charge and decide what behavior we prefer over another. This consistency will will help your puppy to relax and enjoy their life, eat, play, sleep and exercise would be an ideal regiment. As the saying goes, who plays together stays together.
This is of course generic and is also dependent on your dogs character and breed and history. Working breed for example are high energy, smart and thought processing dogs that like to have a job…dogs get bored too, and often destructive in such state. Providing a calm and relaxing environment is key - I am sure you recall how your dog reacts when you enter a vets office. Their senses are so heightened that they can smell fear, urine and all the other history of this place and usually try to bail seconds after entering…mine almost scream at me, please, please I will behave but please take me away from this aweful place… :). Try to reason with a 2yr old child…dogs are similar and rely on their senses and instincts. Hence, I strive to provide a calm, zen environment that enables me to assess your dog and ‘get to know them’ for a few minutes and see if they trust me enough to touch them etc. and create a bond. In some cases training is the first step before a massage might be feasible…

Fact1: Dogs can smell/detect your emotions, happiness, giddiness, and sadness and often even issues or diseases as the body sends out different pheromones that dogs can detect
Fact 2: A dog’s nose print is as unique as our finger prints…
Fact 3: Dogs hearing is many times more sensitive than ours and they can hear up to 4x farther than us,… what did you say? 😜
Fact 4: Dogs can smell human stress and fear hormones
Fact 5: Dogs can dream just like humans and you can observe leg movements and even loud yapping, whining or other sounds while they are in ze dream world.
Fact 6: They willl spend the rest of their lives with you…given them the attention and care they deserve.
Fact 7: Dogs adjust after about 20 min to a new situation or reality and they cannot tell time per se but the disappearance of your scent

When you come home, likely your dogs are extremely excited to see you…yes, but they are also trying to assess, who is in charge now…
if you pet them immediately you might be doing you and your dog a disservice…I can explain later how to behave instead…
With that in mind, when a dog doesn’t behave as expected it’s often us, the owner that needs to adjust our behavior towards ze dog.

My female wolf dog mix loves to hike and jump up on my back (her safest spot in the universe)…
protected by her human and of the ground…she is 10 years now and as athletic as ever, massage therapy and daily exercise helps…among other things like supplements and good food…plus the right amount of attention.

As she was an A+ student it didn’t take too long to teach her that but a few days/weeks with repetition being crucial…I had fun and the broad smile on her face when I gave her a task/job that’s the joy of a trained working breed dog!

Eventually she cleared all tires and did this many times over before chasing after her reward, the frisbee! What a joy it was to watch her ‘perform’. Miss you deeply!

Size doesn’t matter in dog training. All dogs of any age can be trained depending on their aptitude, energy level and fitness they can learn fun things. Jumping through hanging tires and rolling over or ‘dancing’ are just a few examples. I even taught several dogs how to open the fridge and get an item out of it…and then return and close the fridge door again ha ha…
Agile Catahoula
More jumping…and agility:) and we tried to do the agility courses also but I soon realized my dog was too focused on me and couldn’t possibly compete with the speed of Aussies and Border Collies at the same tasks…

Hiking and paddle are some of the best activities for your dogs…
Exercise, physical and mental challenges are ideally done daily and I love to hike in cooler temps up north. We summit Humphreys Peak several times a year and at12644 ft (3850m) the highest peak in AZ, there is still room for more fun…in winter we do same in ze Superstitions, trail like Syphon draw, Flat iron, Hackberry Springs, Peralta etc.
