Benefits of touch and massage are more than skin deep. 

Touching the outside can affect what’s happening in the inside. With less tight muscles the range of motion is greatly improved as the muscles allow the joints to move more freely as intended without holding them too restricted in place. Massage also animates the lymphatic and circulatory systems, allowing the body to flush away toxic compounds from muscles (lactic acid) and rejuvenate the muscles tissue with fresh blood.  Furthermore, vets have found that massage stimulates the production of endorphins, natural chemicals in the body that relieve pain and promote feelings of wellbeing. Massage can cause shifts in your pets energy flow. Blockages can cause a variety of physical problems just like we experience ourselves.

Massage also improves our wellbeing by lowering stress levels and blood pressure. Also, massage like daily grooming rituals of dogs and cats eases aches and pains. Often pets will present us with the part of their body that needs attention. A dog with arthritis will sometimes back into people or lean into us for a neck massage and cats do the same for areas that are hard to reach for them. Of course our pets appreciate the attention as well and can become quite demanding at times.
